✧ Two more managers at Binance US are reportedly quitting amid another round of layoffs at the troubled cryptocurrency exchange. The departures come while Binance’s U.S. trading platform for digital assets is still under heightened regulatory pressure that has damaged its business.
✧ Sony Network Communications, part of the Sony Group, entered into a joint initiative to create a blockchain project that aims to serve as the “backbone of global Web3 infrastructure.” The new company, created with Startale Labs, a Web3 development startup, aims to provide “value-added services” in different areas.
✧ On September 12, 2023, Coinex was hacked, losing an estimated $54 million after hackers removed significant amounts of BTC, ETH, TRX, and other tokens. Three days later, Coinex released an open letter to the hackers, hoping to “build a sincere and open channel of communication.”
✧ The Finance Ministry in Moscow is pushing to legalize decentralized financial organizations to attract capital to Russia’s regulated market for digital assets. The department hopes this would allow some of the liquidity in the decentralized finance (defi) and crypto space to be invested in Russian digital financial assets (DFAs).
✧ Deutsche Bank, the largest bank in Germany by total assets, is collaborating with Swiss digital asset firm Taurus to provide clients with crypto custody and tokenization services. “As the digital asset space is expected to encompass trillions of dollars of assets, it’s bound to be seen as one of the priorities for investors and corporations alike,” said Deutsche Bank’s global head of Security Services.
✧ According to more than 250 documents sent to the media, the disgraced co-founder of FTX, Sam Bankman-Fried, said he feels like “one of the most hated people in the world.” The former CEO of the now-defunct crypto exchange further noted in his statements that “there will probably never be anything I can do to make my lifetime impact net positive.”
